Kim Scalzo is the Executive Director of SUNY Online and Interim Executive Director of Academic Technologies and Information Services (ATIS). Rolando J. Méndez Fernández, Director, Online Academic and Student Services, Inter American University of Puerto Rico

Rolando J. Méndez Fernández is the Director for Online Academic and Student Services at the Inter American University of Puerto Rico, where he helps the institution’s faculty immerse, navigate, and master online learning through mentoring and training. He is a multilingual educator, trainer and manager with over a decade of experience in online learning, specifically in online program administration, faculty development, accessibility, and instructional design. Rolando has developed projects related to accessibility and inclusion in online learning environments, embedded librarianship, transdisciplinary team-teaching, virtual communities of practice, and academic intrapreneurship. He has also led projects in instructional design, faculty development and ed-tech adoption. Erin Maney is the SUNY Online Communications & Community Engagement Manager. She was previously an Open SUNY Senior Instructional Designer, and prior to that came to the team from Monroe Community College where she served as an instructional designer.She has worked for community colleges and universities in Wisconsin and Florida before returning to upstate NY. Erin was formerly an English teacher for K-12 districts and continues to teach developmental writing courses and college orientation seminar as an adjunct instructor. After leaving the traditional classroom, she served in many roles supporting educators in K-12, at-risk youth facilities, technical and career high schools, community colleges, and universities. Robert Piorkowski is the Assistant Director of Online Teaching for SUNY Online. He brings to the position a meaningful understanding of campus culture, online faculty development, instructional design, and online teaching. He is the principal designer of Open SUNY’s Instructional Designer Certificate Program adopted by OLC in 2016, for which he drew input from SUNY’s instructional designer community. Currently, he focuses on the implementation of online teaching supports, services, and resources for remote and online faculty & campus IDs, and the continuous improvement in online course quality via OSCQR. Alyssa Farruggia (she/her), is an Online Learning Success Coach in the SUNY Online degrees at scale initiative. Alyssa has been working for SUNY as an Online Learning Success Coach since December 2019, working specifically with students pursuing an Associate’s degree in Psychology from Monroe Community College. Alyssa describes herself as an advisor, cheerleader, and coach for her students in the Degrees at Scale Initiative. She particularly enjoys working with adult learners and non-traditional students. In her free time, Alyssa enjoys reading, cooking, and spending time outside. Dale P. Johnson, Director of Digital Innovation, University Design Institute, Arizona State University

Dale P. Johnson is the director of digital innovation for the University Design Institute at Arizona State University.  He works with university leaders to develop and implement digital solutions to enable student success. Those efforts have earned him the 2016 Sally M. Johnstone Award from WCET recognizing his thought leadership, excellence in practice, and demonstrated leadership capabilities. In 2018, he was honored by the IMS Global Learning Consortium with an outstanding service award for his leadership of the adaptive courseware community of practice.

Mr. Johnson has spoken on the topic of digital innovation in higher education at more than 20 conferences in the USA, Rwanda, Brazil, South Korea, Singapore, Indonesia, Germany, Mexico, Russia, Norway, Kazakhstan, and Vietnam, and led workshops on the subject at numerous universities. He has a bachelor of science in design degree from ASU and a master in public policy degree from Harvard University, a learning path that combined his interests in design, engineering and education policy.  In his spare time, he enjoys traveling and building things. Dr. Van L. Davis, Chief Strategy Officer, WICHE Cooperative for Educational Technologies (WCET)

Dr. Van L. Davis, joined the WICHE Cooperative for Educational Technologies (WCET) in March 2021 as their chief strategy officer. In addition to his work as WCET’s chief strategy officer, he also serves as Every Learner Everywhere’s service design and strategy officer. Prior to these roles, he served as founder and principal at Foghlam Consulting where he worked with colleges, universities, and nonprofits on strategic planning, higher education policy, and research. Van has over 25 years of experience in higher education. During his career he has served as a faculty member and academic administrator, director of innovations at the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board, and associate vice president for higher education policy and research at Blackboard Inc. He holds a Ph.D. and M.A. in 20th Century United States History with an emphasis in civil rights from Vanderbilt University and a B.A. in History from Southwestern University. Van has devoted his career to improving educational access and affordability for students and has led numerous projects such as the development of Texas’ adult degree completion initiative (GradTX), Texas’ statewide course redesign project, and the development of the first competency-based baccalaureate degrees at Texas public institutions. As faculty and an instructional designer, she’s taught community college and university classes for over 24 years in a range of subjects including English, Technology, Leadership, Dance, and Pilates.
